As St Patrick’s Day celebrations begin this weekend, you may end up spending more money on drinks in the Scottish capital.
This weekend, millions of people across the UK will be getting ready to celebrate St Patrick’s Day early, as the Irish Saint’s day lands on a Monday this year. As many people will be donning some sort of green clothing, the majority of folk will be seen with a pint of Guinness in hand.
St Patrick’s Day is commonly known as a religious and cultural holiday in Ireland which celebrates the Saint who introduced Christianity to the country in the 5th century. It is believed St Patrick died on March 17, hence it becoming the day we celebrate all things Irish.
While many people are travelling far and wide to celebrate with friends and family, it turns out some UK cities are more expensive than others for ordering a refreshing pint of Guinness.
To find out which cities you may want to avoid if you are on budget, experts at the price comparison site Idealo have analysed pint prices across a variety of pubs in top UK cities, with one Scottish city making the list.
Overall, Edinburgh came in fourth place out of the most expensive cities in the UK for a pint of Guinness, with an average cost of £5.18. While many people will choose to indulge in the Irish stout beer this St Patrick’s day, the cost of celebrating can quickly add up.
With the average person likely to have between three to five pints on the day, this could mean you could be spending anywhere between £15.54 to £25.90 over the course of the festivities for this ‘cheap’ pint.
Not surprisingly, London topped the list as the most expensive UK city for a pint of Guinness, with the average cost being £5.87. This was closely followed by Cambridge at the slightly lower price of £5.66, while Bath came in third with an average pint price of £5.41.
Nearer the lower end of the list was Leeds, Birmingham and Brighton. Leeds came in eighth place with an average pint of Guinness costing £4.99, while Birmingham was a bit cheaper at £4.93. Taking the tenth spot of the list is Brighton, where you can grab a celebratory pint for only £4.91.
So if you are thinking about having a cheeky pint of Guinness this weekend or are set to make the most of the festivities, you may want to celebrate in a city that will provide a fun filled atmosphere while also saving you a little bit of money to go towards your next round.
