EastEnders fan favourite Patrick Trueman is set to hide a big secret as the reason for his son Anthony’s return was seemingly revealed.
Anthony initially left Albert Square in 2003 to go travelling after he accidentally caused the death of a pregnant patient, but has reappeared on several occasions.
It was revealed over the weekend that Nicholas Bailey is reprising his role, having last been seen in 2014 when his dad, who has been on the show since 2001, suffered a stroke.
During his time on EastEnders, Anthony was famously involved in a controversial love triangle, cheating on Zoe Slater with her mum Kat Slater on their wedding day.
Discussing his return, Nicholas stated: “It is an unexpected treat to return to EastEnders and I’m full of gratitude to get the opportunity to revisit the character of Anthony.
“It’s wonderful to work with Rudolph Walker again – he’s such a big part of my journey as an actor and I loved filming my first scenes with him after so long.
“I’m excited to see what the passage of time has done to Anthony and explore his relationship with Patrick at this stage in their lives.”
It’s set to be a busy week according to the latest batch of EastEnders spoilers, with Alfie Moon arriving back in Walford on Monday, July 28, after his secret trip to help Zoe.

Lauren Branning discovers Mike was at the house threatening Oscar and insists he involves their uncle Jack for protection. Oscar tries to manage the situation himself until Mike, and his mate Harrison attack.
On his final warning at Lauren’s, Oscar is nervous and goes on the attack when he sees a hooded figure in the house, not realising it’s Peter Beale, who orders him to leave.
Tuesday’s (July 29) episode, will see Lauren try to help her brother about why he went on the attack and discover more about his time in the youth offender’s centre. Determined to help him, Lauren rows with reluctant Peter and storms off to their son Jimmy’s first support group without him.
Patrick’s storyline will enter the spotlight on Wednesday, July 30, when Yolande worries that he is using gambling to pay for her dream wedding.
Despite Yolande insisting he stops placing bets, Patrick’s determined to continue doing so in secret behind her back. On Thursday, July 30, Patrick wins big on the horses and convinces Howie Danes to keep it hidden from Yolande.
Howie is embarrassed when Denzel Danes explains he’s asked Kim Fox for money, so Howie goes for the bouncer’s job at Harry’s Barn to try to bring in extra cash.
Yolande is angry that Patrick has been gambling and warns him the wedding is off if he places another bet. Offering a solution, Denzel says he will place the bet for Patrick instead.
With Anthony having to return in the past to help his dad, it appears that his return could see him trying to get him off his path of deception.
