The future is officially here with robot vacuum cleaners that can sweep our homes out in the wild for shoppers to enjoy. Instead of pushing around a heavy vacuum cleaner twice a week, this little gadgets can emerge from a charging station to chip away at the floor day after day, letting you put your feet up with a hot brew instead.

There are several options to choose from on the market, but luxury vacuum maker Dyson has just knocked a hefty chunk off the price of its premium model that makes it just a bit more affordable. Normally £1,249.99, the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ robot vacuum cleaner is now reduced to £999.99 for a limited time only.

This 20% saving knocks a healthy £250 off the asking price, and although this is still an extreme amount to spend on a vacuum cleaner, it has potential to make your life much easier if you’re stretched for time. Practically automating the vacuuming experience, this high-tech robot hides away on its charging station most of the time, emerging when you choose to clear up any mess that’s lurking on your carpet.

Dyson claims that this vacuum has up to six times the suction versus other robot equivalents on the market, boasting 22,000Pa of suction pressure. That means it’s more than suitable for any type of floor your throw at it, including hardwood and high-pile carpets.

Once you’ve set the gadget up, which one review describes as a ‘plug and play’ experience, it uses Dyson’s Intelligent 360° vision to map out the layout of your living room and best decide how to navigate it. Using cameras and lasers, the vacuum can sense when there’s an obstacle like a coffee table in front of it and scoot around where necessary.

When the vacuum has finished its job, it knows exactly where its charging dock is and makes its way back to where it started, ready to charge up again for the next day. The only manual action required from its owner is to regularly empty its dust container, which is much less strenuous than pushing around a full-sized vacuum every week.

There are some more budget options available out there, including this one from RoboRock which has a mop function built in. It’s currently on sale for £279.99, down from £499.99.

For those on a tight budget, this model from Deenkee also has a mop built in and can be controlled via Alexa voice commands. Normally £359.99, it’s available for £139.99 when purchased with the free £20 voucher at checkout – you’ll need an Amazon Prime membership, though.

Over 170 shoppers have left reviews of the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ robot vacuum cleaner, giving it a 4.3 star rating overall. “The suction seems very strong and I would say its comparable to my Dyson stick vacuum. Like all Dysons vacuums there are a plethora of filters and the collection bin and filters all come out easily and are simple to clean and empty,” says one reviewer.

Another review reads: “I am very happy with the level of clean it has done and for also getting to the edges. It navigated all the obstacles with ease. I am going to let it map out the whole place so that I can select zones to be cleaned each day, then all I will have to do is empty the canister and decide what to do with my free time!”

A third customer left these words: “This is such a time saver, you just set it off and it does a great job of vacuuming the floors leaving you to get on with other things. It’s quiet and efficient. I don’t know how I managed without it.”

Some shoppers did have a few nit-picks to add with the robot vacuum, though. “I have several Dyson vacuum cleaners including the new Gen5, but I returned the Nav 360 because I expected much more. It did not convince me.” Another review shares a similar sentiment, saying: “The robot has excellent suction power but its navigation around the house is not the best, since this unit was constantly disoriented and could not find the charging base.”
