A Brighton man died after being shot Jan. 21 in Dorchester, according to police.

The victim of a fatal Jan. 21 shooting on Ridgewood Street in Dorchester has been identified, Boston police said.

At approximately 7:21 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person shot, where they found Kareem Daveiga-Booth, 20, of Brighton, suffering from a gunshot wound, the Boston Police Department said in a press release.

Daveiga-Booth was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

A GoFundMe page was created Jan. 24 to honor Daveiga-Booth and support his family.

“A proud graduate of Brighton High, Kareem entered the workforce immediately after graduation to help provide for his family,” wrote Elizabeth Cabral, the organizer of the page. “His loving smile, quiet demeanor, and intense love and charm for his family are qualities that will be remembered by all who knew him.”

As of Sunday evening, the fundraiser has received more than $5,500 in donations.

The department’s homicide unit is actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact them at 617-343-4470. Community members can also anonymously call the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS or text “TIP” to CRIME (27463), police said.
