The Delhi Police busted a heroin factory in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly this week after an alleged drug supplier, who was arrested earlier, revealed information about the processing unit where the drugs were being made. The factory owner is absconding, the police said.
In April last year, the Delhi Police had arrested an alleged drug peddler, Rajendra aka Yusuf, 43, with more than half a kilogram of heroin. Yusuf’s associates Bhure and Nawab were also arrested days later with 100 gm of heroin each.
Almost a year later, last week, the Delhi Police arrested Nadeem Khan, who allegedly supplied the drugs to Yusuf, Bhure and Nawab. Following information from Khan, the police conducted a raid on March 3 at a factory in Bareilly where the heroin was being processed, the police said.
The factory was running in a four-storey building, the police said. “The peddlers had bought the property using the money earned from the sale of the heroin. They then started to process it themselves,” a senior police official said.
A team led by Police Inspector Ashok Kumar also seized 0.508 kg of heroin, 4.980 kg of sodium and 5.292 kg of acetic anhydride from the Bareilly factory, the police said. “Their collective efforts resulted in the arrest of four drug suppliers/peddlers and the recovery of 1,236 grams of heroin, and Rs 5 lakh,” Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer North, said.
Khan, a resident of Kardampuri, has been booked in a prior case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the police said.
Bhure, 30, a tailor and a resident of Badaun, used to facilitate the transport of heroin from Uttar Pradesh into Delhi, while Yusuf and Nawab, both residents of Bawana, were the primary distributors in the area, the police said.
