Delhi High Court orders status quo on Rohit Bal’s assets | Delhi News

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday ordered status quo on immovable and movable assets of fashion designer Rohit Bal, who died in November 2023, in a plea by his friend Lalit Tehan.

The court also directed the State to take steps to place a valuation report for Bal’s property and that the report be published in two newspapers.

Tehan, a friend who lived with Bal with their relationship extending to around two decades, has staked a claim to Bal’s assets, relying on an October 30, 2023 will, as per which, Bal bequeathed all his assets, including Bal’s shareholding in Rohit Bal Designs, Private Limited, to Tehan.

He has claimed his right as successor to the brand and assets, which include two floors in Defence Colony, a factory in Noida, some land, artworks and artefacts. Tehlan has alleged that Bal’s step-siblings are trying to usurp the properties, including changing the locks on Bal’s Defence Colony property and stationing security guards at the property.

Justice Anish Dayal on Tuesday ordered, “To avoid dissipation of the estate, there will remain a status quo on the movable assets or any property or asset of the testator, even the ones not listed or known.”
