Days after the formation of ‘anti-eve-teasing’ squads, over 300 personnel of the Delhi Police received training at Wazirabad’s Police Training Centre on Wednesday.
Each district of the Delhi Police has formed two such squads led by inspector-level officers. These squads will comprise trained personnel, who shall focus on preventing, deterring, and responding to such offences on a real-time basis, as per directions of the Delhi Police headquarters.
The training was for a day and concluded in the evening.
Among the mandates for the “anti-eve-teasing” or “Shistachar” squads, which will soon be doing the rounds of public places across the city, are enforcing the law rather than imposing personal or cultural morality on individuals, and ensuring that the victims are protected from unnecessary public scrutiny or embarrassment.
According to an officer, the Delhi Police has been implementing multiple initiatives to curb crime against women, including sexual harassment and molestation, to foster a safer public environment and instill confidence amongst the vulnerable sections.
