Death in Paradise is set for a huge shake-up as the Commissioner’s future is thrown into turmoil
Death in Paradise could see the return of more than one familiar face after Selwyn Patterson’s (portrayed by Don Warrington) future is in jeopardy.
Bookmakers suggest that Danny John-Jules might just reprise his role as Officer Dwayne Myers in an epic comeback. Sara Martins, who played Camille Bordey, is another name in the mix, potentially set to grace our screens once again.
In last week’s tear-jerking episode, viewers witnessed an emotional moment when the Commissioner confided in his team: “There is also a second apology I have to make.”
He continued with a heavy heart, “I have been keeping something from you which… on the advice of a trusted friend, I have decided to share with you all. The position of Saint Marie’s Police Commissioner is being phased out, and I am being phased out.”
To this, Naomi (played by Shantol Jackson) protested, “They can’t,” prompting Selwyn’s response, “I am afraid they can, and they are,” reports the Express.

Amidst uncertainty over Selwyn’s fate on Saint Marie, bookies speculate about the possible returns to the island’s sunny shores.
A reminder of Dwayne’s presence was felt recently in the Death in Paradise Christmas special, which featured an appearance alongside his father, Nelson (played by Ram John Holder). Fans expressed disappointment at his absence from current storylines, fostering hope for his return.
Betway spokesperson Mike Reading commented: “The latest season of Death in Paradise has already hinted at a major departure – with Don Warrington’s character, Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, potentially exiting. As one of the longest-serving characters, the Commissioner has been at the heart of the series and Saint Marie’s police force since the very beginning.
“While this isn’t the first time an exit has been teased for Warrington – after the 100th episode saw his character considering retirement following a near-death experience – this most recent development may see the Commissioner role change or be ‘dissolved’ for good, paving the way for a drastic shakeup to the show’s long-standing format.”
He went on to say: “Should Warrington depart, Danny John-Jules is the 3/1 favourite to return to Saint Marie in what could be a surprising twist – reprising his role as fan-favourite character Dwayne Myers to take on the mantle of Commissioner. Close behind is former co-star Sara Martins, priced up at 5/1, who could make a dramatic comeback as Camille Bordey.
“Also in the running are Martin Clunes (7/1) and Adjoa Andoh (8/1), following success with respective shows Out There and Bridgerton. Elsewhere, Lennie James (12/1) and Diane Morgan (16/1) could bring an entirely new dynamic to the detective series, while Wonka star Paterson Joseph is the longshot at 25/1.”
He added: “As the newest season continues, all eyes are on who might step into paradise should Commissioner Patterson bid farewell for good!”
Online fan speculation is rife, with many voicing their desire to see familiar faces return to the fold. The likes of Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Jack Mooney (Ardal O’Hanlon) have been named as potential saviours.
One enthusiast took to a Facebook fan group to say: “If Selwyn Patterson leaves Death in Paradise, can we have Humphrey and Jack come back to save him from being axed?”
Another echoed this sentiment, simply urging, “Bring back Humphrey,” while a third shared, “I like all of the characters, especially Selwyn, but I do miss Kris Marshall.”
Death in Paradise returns tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
