Deadly gunfire erupts in Long Beach after alleged verbal altercation

A man was killed after an alleged verbal dispute that escalated to into gunfire Saturday in Long Beach, officials announced.  

Officers with the Long Beach Police Department responded to reports of the shooting in the 0 block of Cedar Walk just before 6 p.m., according to a department news release.  

At the scene, police located an adult male suffering from gunshot wounds and administered medical aid until paramedics with the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was later declared deceased.  

Details are limited and it’s unclear exactly how the violence unfolded, though homicide investigators said that preliminary information suggests that the victim was in a verbal dispute with a person or several persons before he was fatally shot.

Investigators also said that additional circumstances in connection with the incident are currently under investigation.  

“The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Los Angeles County Department Medical Examiner,” the release stated.  

Homicide detectives believe there may be additional witnesses and video related to the deadly confrontation.
