Ambedkar Jayanti 2025 Date India: Ambedkar Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, the ‘Father of the Indian Constitution’ and the first Law Minister of Independent India.

It is also known as Equality Day, as Dr Ambedkar spent his life fighting for the rights of women, labour, and oppressed communities in India – eradicating social discrimination and thereby advocating equality for all the citizens of India in the eyes of the law. This year will mark his 135th birth anniversary and be celebrated on April 14, falling on a Monday.

Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated on the birth date of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, with the first observance by Janardan Sadashiv Ranapisay being a public celebration on April 14, 1928. Dr BR Ambedkar was born in 1891 belonging to the Mahar caste and experienced severe caste discrimination throughout his life.

Ambedkar championed education as a way to empowerment and societal progress and set up the ‘Bahishkrit Hitkarini Sabha’ in 1923 to spread education amongst the marginalised communities.

Ambedkar Jayanti is a public holiday in India that commemorates Dr. Ambedkar’s ‘contributions to society and the Constitution’ and serves as a reminder to everyone to uphold the principles of equality, justice, and liberty.

Ambedkarites come together on this day to carry out processions and tributes at Dr Ambedkar’s statues in various parts of the country to pay respect and celebrate his birthday.
