A “depressed” dad claims he was left without a bathroom for six months resulting in him having to get a taxi to family members’ homes just to shower.

John Adams, 48, from Castlefields, in Runcorn, told the ECHO how he and his three children have been having to use taxis every day to use family’s showers after his own bathroom started leaking.

The 48-year-old, whose children are aged 15, 11, and two, claims his bathroom started leaking in May causing severe damage to the tiles and flooring. He said he reported the issue to a housing association, Onward Homes, who own his property, however, no repairs have allegedly been done.

John said: “Since May we have been taking taxis to our family’s houses just to have a shower. The shower started leaking and it was flooding the bathroom in my bungalow. It was quite bad. It ripped tiles off and ripped my floor up.

“I reported it to maintenance [at Onward Homes] and asked them to come out and do the bathroom. They came out to inspect it and they told me I would need a whole new bathroom and that they would get someone to come out to do it.”

John claims that someone came out to his property and “replaced five tiles and put two handrails in.” John added: “He told me he was going to the van to get the new shower door to put on and I’ve never seen him since.

“He had taken the shower door off, the shower head and wood away. We have been left like this for six months. I made a formal complaint and they told me someone would be back to fix it but nobody has been and I have CCTV footage to prove nobody has tried knocking on my front door.”

Onward Homes has apologised to the dad for the ”distress and inconvenience caused” and said it will attend the property to assess any work.

The dad said he has three children living at home, including a two-year-old, who he has been having to “traipse” across Liverpool to family member’s homes to get a wash. He claims the stress has caused him and his partner to “split up.”

John said: “It is disgusting. I have severe muscular damage, my lungs are collapsing and I currently have no bathroom. I have to travel every day to family member’s homes to have a shower and wash the kids.

“It’s not nice to live in, we want to decorate but we can’t until the bathroom is done. It’s a mess, all we have is a toilet. I have two kids with ADHD and one who is autistic. It’s murder getting them in the shower at the best of times here, never mind somewhere else.”

John says he is “depressed” over the situation. He added: “I feel like I’m getting nowhere. I just want my bathroom.” A spokesperson for Onward said: “We are very sorry for the distress and inconvenience caused to Mr Adams. When Mr Adams first reported issues to us we visited his home and unblocked the drain, however, we acknowledge that it has taken too long to complete the follow-up works.

“We will visit Mr Adam’s home today [Friday, October 18] to carry out an assessment and any subsequent works will be given priority. “We acknowledge that this has been an upsetting time and will make sure that Mr Adams is offered support and is satisfied with the work that we carry out.”
