The actor, who is best known for playing DC Kit Green in the ITV soap, was quick to respond to his co-star’s update
Coronation Street star Jacob Roberts has shared a sweet message to one of his former co-stars as they adressed their exit for the first time.
The actor is best known for playing DC Kit Green in the ITV soap, having made his first appearance in Weatherfield last year during Bernie Winter’s search for her long-lost son.
Kit hasn’t won many people over during his time on the cobbles so far, but it’d be fair to say his number one enemy is Mick Michaelis.
Mick, played by Joe Layton, made his own arrival to Weatherfield earlier this year alongside wife Lou and their children. They set up home on Mawdsley Street, the other side of the ginnel behind the home of Kit’s sister Gemma Winter-Brown and her husband, Chesney.
It was soon revealed that Mick and Lou had a history with Kit, and flashback scenes confirmed they were friends as children, before Kit let Mick take the full blame for a horror firework attack on the local shop, which left the shopkeeper’s wife with third-degree burns.
It was also revealed that Kit and Lou slept together while Mick was behind bars and it has since been confirmed that Kit is the biological father of tearaway teen, Brody Michaelis, and not Mick.
But fans of the long-running show know, Mick was set into an angry spin about Brody’s parternity following a smart remark from Kit, later leading to him lashing out, and ultimatley killing, PC Craig Tinker in a drunken rage.
He was quickly caught and put behind bars, but last month, Mick made one last bid for freedom. With news his wife, Lou, is in trouble for her recent attack on Gary Windass and the kids without their parents, Corrie fans saw Mick break free from prison in a bid to reunite his family and flee Weatherfield once and for all.
But in the end, having confronted Sally Metcalfe on the Underworld roof, where she escaped with his daughter, Joanie, Mick gave himself up to the police before later distancing himself from teenager Brody, leaving him heartbroken.
The scenes officially marked the end of Mick – and actor Joe Layon’s – time on the cobbles and now, the soap star has shared his departing message to fans.
Alongside a video highlighting his shot, but very full, time in Weatherfield, Joe wrote on Instagram: “What a six months! From the front desk to floor runners, canteen to costume department, @coronationstreet is full of brilliant people who made me feel at home from the moment I walked in.
“Big thanks to @thekatebrooks for putting your trust in me! Feel very lucky to have worked alongside so many brilliant cast but special mentions must go to @farrelhegarty @_jacob.roberts @jane_hazlegrove and of course @colsonjsmith who I had such a fantastic time with under the brilliant Duncan Foster.
“It was genuinely a privilege to walk the cobbles, and doing it in Mick’s dodgy steel-toe-cap trainers was the icing on the cake.”
He added: “Finally…big thanks to all the lovely fans who have messaged and commented supporting me. Your support and love for the show is overwhelming and so appreciated…I’ll be watching alongside you now! (Also thanks @thismorning for the edit!!!).”
Jacob was quick to respond, as he wrote in the comments section of the post: “I’ll miss you bro [heart emoji],” to which Joe then replied: “miss you too mate! Keep smashing it!”
