The soap’s Dee-Dee Bailey actress was left declaring her love for one of her castmates as fans were quick to flood her with the same praise
Coronation Street star Channique Sterling-Brown was left declaring her love for one of her castmates as fans were quick to flood her with the same praise.
The actress took to social media with a string of snaps that summed up her travels back and forth to London in recent weeks. At the start of this week, Channique was seen live on This Morning and shared snaps with show hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shepherd.
Channique, who is best known for playing Dee-Dee Bailey in the ITV soap, was also seen representing Corrie alongside co-star Cait Fitton, who plays Weatherfield’s Lauren Bolton, at an event celebrating ITV’s 70 years of continuing drama, which was attended by the Queen.
Alongside the post on Instagram, Channique wrote to her 34,000 followers: “Busy couple of weeks back and forth from the big smoke for work.” She added: “Also lots of Qs about the dress and blazer both are from M&S, because apparently I’m at that age where you absolutely LOVE a bit of Marks and Sparks.”
Corrie co-star Mollie Gallagher, who plays Nina Lucas on the cobbles, was among the first to respond as she wrote in the comments section: “Go queen,” to which Channique replied: ” thanks queen.”
Debbie Webster icon Sue Devaney also commented: “You look fabulous my darling!” with Channique gushing back: “Ooohh I love you so much.” Emmerdale star Michelle Hardwick also shared: “You look incredible!”
Channique’s latest post comes as she’s flooding with praise of her latest portrayal of Dee-Dee in Corrie. The solicitor has had a traumatic experience having had to have her unborn child delivered swiftly after her concerns were dismissed by overworked nurses at the hospital.
As fans of long-running show know, Dee-Dee fell pregnant with her evil ex-fiance Joel Deering’s baby before his shock murder last autumn. Dee-Dee first kept her pregnancy a secret before opening up to Sarah Platt about her predicament as she didn’t want to have Joel’s baby.
But when Lauren Bolton’s son, Frankie, who was also Joel’s child, became ill, it became apparent that Dee-Dee’s unborn child could be the one to save him and she eventually agreed to continue with the pregnancy to help Frankie, but would be giving up her child for adoption after the birth.
Dee-Dee’s brother, James, has since returned to Weatherfield, having been spoken to by their dad, as offered to adopt his niece with his partner, Danny. Dee-Dee has been unsure about the idea but was left handing her brother her baby girl after her dramatic arrival during Monday night’s (March 31) episode.
In dramatic and emotional scenes, Dee-Dee went into labour after her initial pains had earlier been dismissed during a visit to the hospital’s maternity unit.
While she was seen by a nurse, Dee-Dee’s pain wasn’t taken seriously due to the staff in the ward being overworked. But her high blood pressure was noted and it was later revealed, as she was rushed back to the hospital after her waters broke, that she had pre-eclampsia and the baby needed to arrive immediately.
It was also after the traumatic birth that Dee-Dee was dismissed, with a nurse not listening to her requests about not breastfeeding or having skin-to-skin contact because she wasn’t going to be keeping her little girl, as well as ignoring her complaints of extreme fatigue and general feeling of being unwell.
Dee-Dee then fell unconscious and it was discovered that she was bleeding heavily, something she was heard hinting at as she told the nurse she felt wet “down there”. It was then in the following episode on Wednesday (April 2) that Dee-Dee confirmed doctors had to perform an emergency hysterectomy to save her life, and that she won’t be able to carry any more children.
And the praise for Channique’s portrayal of her character’s latest trauma came flooding in on social media. @jackieszel said: “Channique is one of the best actors on corrie atm in my opinion.” @lornawatts replied: “An amazing actress, she better win some awards. This storyline has been intense and it’s far from being over.
