Coronation Street fans have been left all of a flutter as Carla Connor and DS Lisa Swain were seen officially confirming their relationship status in a sweet moment.
Fans of the ITV soap have known the couple have been in a relationship for a few months now after both struggled to admit their true feelings at first.
So viewers were eventually delighted last year when Carla and Lisa finally gave into their feelings after months of growing closer to one another and a ‘charged’ moment during the autumn.
But their new relationship has already faced challenges with Lisa’s job keeping her busy and an unexpected decline in Carla’s health at the start of the year that lead to her needing another kidney transplant.
Things still aren’t quite yet on the up for the pair, with Carla’s murderer brother Ron Donovan on the run. After not wanting her family to consider being donors, Rob was approached by his son, Bobby Crawford, who encouraged him to help his older sister as her life hung in the balance.
While he originally pushed back over Bobby’s request, Rob later agreed to be tested but his true motives were made clear. Fast forward to being confirmed as a match and undergoing the operation, Carla was woken from her recovery by prison officer Mandy, who believed she was in a loving relationship with Rob, when really it was all for his own gain as he plotted to escape prison.
The drama eventually saw Rob use Lisa to get to the abandoned office block where Mandy was waiting with a poorly Carla, before attacking her as she secretly tried to call her colleague DC Kit Green. In the end, with Mandy gone, Carla found the energy to push her brother down the stairs, and a weakened Rob fell over the balcony.
Lisa then appeared to find him at the bottom. She declared him dead and focused on getting Carla back to hospital, with Kit’s help. But when the detective constable later returned to the scene, he was informed that Rob must have been alive as he was gone and he’ll soon return to Weatherfield for one final confrontation with the couple.
But after watching Friday night’s (March 7) episode of Corrie, which was made available at 7am on ITVX before its 8pm showing on ITV, Swarla fans were simply delighted with the progress they were seeing in Carla’s relationship with Lisa, with her finally upgrading her partner to ‘girlfriend’.
There was a buzz on social media as @carrlaconnor said: “Too much too unpack… carla dropping the g word, the hug!!! playing with the hair!!!!!! yeah, it’s over for ME.” @carlasbarlow commented: “Carla playing with lisa’s collar and hair has given me much to think about on this beautiful friday i’m so happy we’ve got content again i might cry.”
