It comes after the residents of Weatherfield gathered to say their own sad goodbye to Craig in the ITV soap
Coronation Street fans have been calling for a rarely-used character to be made permanent following the tragic death of Craig Tinker, saying it’s ‘about time’.
There were tear-jerking scenes in the ITV soap this week as the residents of Weatherfield gathered to say their own sad goodbye to their friend and local cop.
Viewers saw Craig’s untimely death emerge after he was supposed to be on placement with CID but was given the cold shoulder by his mentor, DC Kit Green, and his distracted and rather cruel behaviour saw Craig seek advice from DS Lisa Swain.
She was seen encouraging Craig to prove Kit wrong, and let her know if he had any more issues with the detective constable. But his decision to put back on his uniform later went against him in a devastating way that led to his death at the hands of Mick Michaelis.
During Wednesday’s (June 11) episode of Corrie, a memorial for Craig was held following his private funeral, which was only attended by Kirk Sutherland from the cobbles at Beth Tinker’s request.
When Kit failed to show up, and due to make a speech, it was left to Lisa to save the day and deliver a moving speech before those attending sat in the Bistro and remembered Craig with their stories, while his premature death hanging heavy over them all.
Among those at the memorial was Craig’s colleague, Jess Heywood. The character, played by actress Donnaleigh Bailey, was brought in as the mentor of Craig in 2017.
Taking to social media after the scenes, @WayhaughtLunar said: “I am a Jess stan now! I need Jess, Lisa and Carla to become friends! Also make her a permanent character! #Corrie #Swarla.”
@mitchelld199 demaned: “Make Jess a regular! #Corrie.” @agf1052 commented: “I like Jess, hope she stays #Corrie.” @sarahlawson84 asked: “Is Jess going to become a regular? She’s great! #Corrie.” @randomstuffxzxz added: “Isn’t it about time she became a main character? What’s her story Corrie???”
