Call2Recycle, Canada’s primary battery recycling organization, has partnered with circular solutions provider RLG to implement advanced safety technology for lithium-ion battery collection. This partnership addresses growing concerns about thermal incidents during recycling processes.
The collaboration introduces RLG’s LiSa box system, a specialized containment unit designed to safely transport and store damaged, defective, or recalled lithium-ion batteries. This innovation features patented AkkuGrain technology that suppresses fires and neutralizes hazardous gases while meeting stringent UN safety standards. This technological advancement may increase public confidence in battery recycling initiatives
Call2Recycle’s established network of 15,000 collection points nationwide will progressively integrate these containers throughout 2025. The improved lithium-ion battery collection system will complement the company’s existing programs for household batteries, e-mobility devices, and electric vehicle batteries.
