Chhaava box office collection day 28: Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster is just Rs 4 crore shy of beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan | Bollywood News

Chhaava box office collection day 28: With the release of its Telugu version, director Laxman Utekar’s historical actioner Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna in the lead roles, has managed to sustain strong momentum in the domestic market even in its fourth week in theatres. This trend continued on Thursday (March 13) too, with the film earning over Rs 4 crore. Now, the movie is eyeing a record set by Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan (2023), which featured Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.

On Thursday, Chhaava recorded an India nett collection of Rs 4.5 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk, taking its domestic total to Rs 539.5 crore. However, this also marked a 6.25 per cent dip in the movie’s daily earnings compared to its Wednesday collection of Rs 4.8 crore. While the Hindi version contributed Rs 3.75 crore to Thursday’s overall figure, the Telugu edition added Rs 75 lakh. With this, the movie’s worldwide gross has climbed to Rs 731 crore.

During the day, Chhaava recorded an overall occupancy rate of 8.81 per cent in the Hindi market and 13.41 per cent in the Telugu market. The morning shows started with 5.36% and 11.47% occupancy, respectively, with rates improving as the day progressed — rising to 9.05% and 13.38% in the afternoon, 7.91% and 13.82% in the evening and peaking at 12.91% and 14.96% during night screenings.

At its current pace, Chhaava is expected to surpass the Rs 550 crore mark in domestic earnings this weekend, clinching the ninth spot in the list of highest-grossing Indian films in terms of domestic nett collections, overtaking Pathaan which amassed Rs 543.09 crore during its theatrical run. If the film continues this trajectory, it could soon dethrone Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s 2023 Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna-starer Animal (Rs 553.87 crore) to claim the eighth position.

However, Chhaava’s daily earnings have declined in recent days, now trailing behind the collections of Stree 2 and Jawan, Bollywood’s highest-grossing films of the last two years. On their respective fourth Thursdays in theatres, Stree 2 earned Rs 5.35 crore, while Jawan collected Rs 7.05 crore. Meanwhile, their fourth Friday earnings stood at Rs 4.5 crore and Rs 5.95 crore, respectively.

In her review of the movie, SCREEN’s Shubhra Gupta wrote: “The torture porn in the climax of Vicky Kaushal’s film reminds you of the systematic flaying of Jesus in ‘The Passion of Christ’.”
