DUNBAR, W.Va. — Charleston Catholic received contributions throughout their lineup to collect their ninth victory of the spring with a 17-0, 5-inning win over Man. CCHS head coach Will Bobinger was able to utilize his entire varsity roster in the game.
The Irish (9-5) scored 11 runs in the first inning against three Man pitchers to put the game out of reach early. 17 batters took the plate in the opening frame and the Irish collected eight hits in the inning.
“They were able to time up the pitcher really well. And they had some very good, quality at bats. There were a lot of base hits and they worked the count very well,” said Bobinger.
Connor Jarvis tossed four shutout innings for the Irish before yielding to Xander Allara for the final inning. Jarvis allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three batters.
“He is getting better each time out,” Bobinger said of Jarvis. “His pitch count, we always work them up as the season progresses. So he is getting near a full game. He was on today. He had a no-hitter going into the fourth inning there. I told him that he could keep pitching as long as the no-hitter was there.”
This was the only game of the week for the defending state champions. They will be tested next week by a challenging slate of games against the likes of Williamstown, Independence, Winfield, Gilmer County and Midland Trail.
“We scheduled a pretty difficult schedule. We are trying to make sure that we are ready for the end of the year when the important games are played.
“There’s always room for improvement. One of our sayings is, ‘Get one percent better every day’. I think the boys are buying into that and doing a pretty good job of getting better each time out.”
Allara and Zaden Ranson each led Charleston Catholic with three hits. Luke Blaydes, Jaxon Kimble and Damon Master each added a pair of hits.
Man (10-3), coming off a win Tuesday against Class AAA Champanville, saw their six-game winning streak come to an end. Braxton Messer and Brayden Compton had base hits for the Hillbillies.
