The Great Celebrity Bake Off has returned to Channel Four to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer – and X has been awarded with the illustrious Star Baker award.

Presenter and broadcaster Sarah Beeny, actress Maxine Peake, comedian and journalist Amelia Dimoldenberg and radio DJ Roman Kemp competed on Sunday night’s episode of the charity version of the popular British baking show.

Each episode, four celebrities will be challenged to create their best bakes in the signature, technical and showstopper rounds. At the end of each episode just one celebrity will be crowned Star Baker.

Paul Hollywood has returned to judge the competition this year – but without Prue Leith. Former co-owner and managing director of Leith’s School of Food and Wine, and a longstanding friend of Prue, Caroline Waldegrave OBE, joins the show. Together Paul and Caroline are judging the celebrities’ baking efforts in these celebrity episodes for Stand Up To Cancer.

Each episode the contestants are tasked to complete three bakes – the signature, the technical and the showstopper. On Sunday night, the four bakers had to make cupcakes, flapjack and a biscuit scene of their choice.

Roman Kemp impressed with his ice-cream cupcakes which led to viewers at home taking to social media.

@Sazzyness wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Can @romankemp mass produce his ice cream cakes to supermarkets please? They look absolutely delicious & I need at least 6 box worths! #gbbo”.

Other praise included @Rosie12_1994: “#gbbo oh well done roman”, and @KayleighAnslow: “Not going to lie Roman’s Ice Cream Cupcakes look amazing #GBBO”.

Last year, Dermot O’Leary, Gabby Logan, Spencer Matthews and Leigh Francis all won Star Baker in their respective episodes after Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood praised the stars for their efforts.

During the first episode that aired on Sunday 16th March, Chris Ramsey, Rosie Ramsey, Scarlette Douglas and Stuart Douglas took on the tent.

They were challenged to tea-time classic scones in the Signature, before taking on a chocolately old-school favourite in the Technical, while they had to replicate a career highlight in their Showstopper cake.
