Cat’s Plan To Stop Owner From Leaving the Driveway Has Internet in Stitches

In a viral TikTok video, a cat owner shared the hilarious way her cat stops her from ever leaving the driveway, and internet users can’t cope with it.

The clip, shared on Thursday under the username @thegreatstink_, shows the woman sitting in the driver’s seat of her car, ready to leave, as her cat lies on the roof of the car, looking down at her as if she knows just what she’s doing.

“She does anything to make sure I don’t leave this damn driveway…” reads layover text in the clip. A caption says: “Like I love [you] too girl but I need to get dinner!”

Cats have a special talent for misbehaving and ignoring their owners when they try to give them orders, but why?

A study by Japanese scientists, published on Scientific Reports, found that cats do recognize their names when we call them, often acknowledging it with an orienting response, like moving their ears or head, yet they still decide to ignore us.

In an article medically reviewed by Dr. Paola Cuevas, Catster explains that the main reason our felines don’t listen to us is simply that they don’t rely on us the same way dogs do, and so they don’t feel obliged to comply.

Another reason is that you’re using the wrong tone to speak to them. Cats are not only able to distinguish our voice, but they can also tell the tone we are using, and because they don’t understand the words we say, the rely on our tone to understand when to respond.

The cause may also be as simple as not using the right rewards to train them. However, this behavior can also be a sign that your cat is scared of you; or that they are sick, if it happens out of nowhere.
