Cardiff City striker Kion Etete has joined Rotherham United on loan for the upcoming season. The 23-year-old heads off to the join Millers and becomes their 10th signing of the summer.

Etete has struggled for game-time in south Wales and spent a spell with Bolton Wanderers on loan last term.

Since returning from their pre-season training camp in Spain, Etete has been nowhere to be seen and his exit has now been confirmed.

He will join Cardiff’s League One rivals for the 2025/26 campaign.

“Centre-forward Kion Etete has joined Rotherham United on loan for the 2025/26 season,” the club wrote on their website.

“He linked up with the Bluebirds in 2022, and has made 63 appearances, scoring nine times so far.

“We’d like to wish Kion all the very best while away from Cardiff City Stadium.”

Etete joins former Bluebird Jordan Hugill up north and he could make his debut for his new club against Port Vale tomorrow.

The Millers wrote: “Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the signing of our 10th arrival of the summer in the form of striker Kion Etete, who joins on loan from Cardiff City until the end of the season, subject to EFL, FA and FAW ratification and international clearance.

“The Millers have swooped for the signature of the 23-year-old frontman who burst onto the scene with Notts County before spending time with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

“Etete, who has also enjoyed loan switches to Bolton Wanderers, Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town throughout his career arrives to add further firepower to Matt Hamshaw’s forward line ahead of the season opener against Port Vale on Saturday.

“The Derby-born striker joined his current club Cardiff City in 2022 and has turned out 56 times in the Sky Bet Championship for the Bluebirds since then.

“His arrival provides competition at the top end of the pitch in the attacking ranks which already boasts the likes of Jordan Hugill, Sam Nombe and Joshua Kayode.

“The Millers will now await confirmation of the necessary clearances which will determine whether Kion is able to take part in Saturday’s Sky Bet League One opener against Port Vale.”

Etete’s departure from Cardiff City Stadium leaves head coach Brian Barry-Murphy with just two senior strikers to choose from in Yousef Salech and Callum Robinson – although Isaak Davies can fill in up top too.

Cardiff have already loaned out Michael Reindorf and Roko Simic so far this summer.
