Canadian hockey fans took to social media after Team Canada’s victory over Team U.S.A. at the final game of the 4 Nations Face-Off on Thursday evening. By Friday morning, the term “Premier Trump” had been used nearly 15,000 times on X, and the term “11th Province” nearly 25,000 times.

“Canada beats the United States in overtime officially adding America as the 11th province. Congratulations to Premier Trump,” wrote one user on X with the handle @saintjavelin.
“I hope Premier Trump of the 11th province was watching that,” wrote another X user with the handle @AverageFan_Z.
Another person with the handle @NickyFrank30 on X wrote: “Canada winning after Trump trash talking all day feels like a vibe shift. Sit down Premier Donald.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau chimed in as well in a post on X around 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

“You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,” said Trudeau.
Canadian fans trolling Americans also posed a question that was trending on X: What’s a mile? — the jab referring to how the U.S. uses that unit of length rather than the kilometre, which is used in Canada.
“(What the f—) is a mile? I only know kilometers (sic)!!!!” wrote one person on X with the handle @totallypasanna.
“(What the f—) is a mile? We are Canada. We are not American. We are Canada and will always be Canada,” wrote another person on X with the handle @JohnnyHockey0.
Earlier on Thursday, in a post on Truth Social, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not be able to attend the game in person due to a meeting with governors. However, he added, that he would be watching and “if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome.”
Once again, in the same post, Trump said Canada “will someday, maybe soon” become the 51st state.
The undertone of the back-and-forth comments and online trolling stemmed from tensions already in place between Canada and the United States since Trump became president.
