A busy main road in Rochdale was taped off by police on Monday evening (March 17) following a ‘serious collision’.

The A58 Manchester Road was cordoned off on the westbound carriageway following the incident at around 6pm. The road was blocked between New Barn Lane to the Rochdale Bypass.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene, with witnesses reportedly seeing an ambulance leaving the incident on blue lights.

Photos from the scene showed a police car and officers stationed at the cordon, at the junction with the bypass (A664) amid investigations.

Further details about the incident have not been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police. The force has been contacted for a full statement but has not responded.

An update by live traffic service Inrix read: “A58 Manchester Road Westbound closed due to accident from New Barn Lane to the Rochdale bypass.”
