The fast foot titan is giving away 100 free cheeseburgers to celebrate the opening
Burger sensation Phat Buns has officially landed in Liverpool. The fast-food company already has stores up and down the country, including in Birmingham, Coventry, Derby, Nottingham and Leicester.
However, the brand has chosen Slater Street in the city centre for its debut Merseyside site. On the menu, you will find everything from breakfast buns and hot dogs to wings and milkshakes to loaded fries and tenders. It also hosts an exclusive Cheetos range.
Beside this, Phat Buns prides itself on standing out from the mainstream because of its halal burgers – 100 of which will be given away to the first customers through the doors today, Saturday, May 10, at 12pm to celebrate the launch.
Marketing director Ibraheem Yusuf told the ECHO: “PHAT Buns is bringing its bold burger experience to Liverpool for the first time. Our beef is freshly ground on-site, giving us some of the freshest smash burgers around.
“But we don’t just stop at beef – our menu includes a full Nashville chicken range, loaded hot dogs, fries, beef brisket burgers, and our 12-hour slow-cooked rib sandwich that people travel for. What sets us apart is our DIY Burger Range – customers can build their burger just the way they like it, from bun to toppings.
“We’re proud to be a fully halal brand, not just in sourcing, but in preparation too. Every store maintains strict cleanliness standards, ensuring our food is made in an environment our customers can trust. Liverpool hasn’t seen a halal smash burger joint like this before – and we’re here to shake things up.”
Halal food refers to food that is permissible to eat according to Islamic law and therefore suitable for Muslim community members to consume. The Arabic term encompasses a variety of dietary guidelines, including focusing on the way animals are treated and the ingredients used in food preparation.
For meat to be considered halal, the animal must be slaughtered in a specific way, known as “zabiha”. This involves a swift, humane cut to the throat while invoking the name of God. The animal must also be healthy at the time of slaughter.
Halal food also must not have come into contact with strictly forbidden items (haram) in Islam. This includes pork, its by-products and alcohol. Similarly, halal food must be prepared and cooked using utensils and equipment that have not been contaminated with haram substances.
However, Phat Burgers claims it isn’t just about the company meeting various religious requirements. The brand added: “The burgers are made from natural meat that has not been treated with antibiotics or growth hormones, meaning they don’t contain any harmful chemicals and have a better taste. But there’s more to our halal burgers than the quality and slaughtering procedures.
“You can choose from one of our signature halal burgers or create your own with our range of versatile halal meats, including beef and chicken. By building your burger with your selected halal meat and unlimited toppings, you can test your culinary creativity and put your taste buds through their paces.
“Our decision to offer the best halal burgers in Liverpool also aligns with our brand values, which support ethical practices with an emphasis on the humane treatment of animals and the strict guidelines surrounding their slaughter and the processing of meat.
“We understand our customers are more informed and committed to making conscious choices regarding their food, and we are committed to helping them maintain those commitments.”
Another popular restaurant which has seen queues down the street since it opened its doors for the first time, confirmed to the ECHO it also serves Halal food – you can read about it here.
