Brendan Rodgers was left ‘incensed’ by a late Pape Gueye challenge on Reo Hatate – and shared words with the match officials as he sought treatment for his star turn.

Rodgers’ Premiership champions were closing in on a 5-1 win over Aberdeen who had just been depleted by an Alfie Dorrington red card and frustrations in the home ranks were high in the late stages.

Gueye went in with a cruncher on Hatate, who had recently been thrown on as a sub for a heavily-rotated Celtic side.

And as the midfielder writhed on the deck, Rodgers looked raging on the touchline.

Chris Sutton spotted it on co-commentary as he said: “He’s incensed, Brendan Rodgers.

“He’s saying it’s 50/50 but Gueye goes in with the full force, Hatate’s pulling out. Brendan Rodgers isn’t letting it go.”

In the moments that followed Rodgers was seen ordering the fourth official to move and clear space for Hatate to receive attention from the medical staff.

Hatate was seen limping with an ice pack strapped to his knee at full-time.

So it looks like it may be bad news for the Irishman who rotated his side specifically to avoid any injuries.
