West Yorkshire Police has launched a murder investigation after a teenager died in hospital
A teenager who suffered a knife injury to his neck in Huddersfield town centre has died, police have confirmed.
West Yorkshire Police issued an update on Friday, April 4, after the 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident on Thursday afternoon.
The force said it has now launched a murder investigation after the teenager died in hospital, Yorkshire Live reports.
Emergency services were called to Ramsden Street in the Yorkshire town centre at around 2.45pm on Thursday to reports that a male had been stabbed.
Officers attended the scene and the 16-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for a serious injury to his neck. He later died in hospital as a result of his injuries, the force confirmed on Friday.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident. Another man and a woman have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck said: “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life as a result of a knife injury.
“We have a team of dedicated detectives who are at the scene and investigating this fatal attack.
“Our initial investigations do indicate that it was an isolated incident, and local neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.
“I want to thank witnesses who have come forward so far and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that can help our enquiry to please come forward.”
Following the incident, officers taped off a large area of the town centre including a stretch of Ramsden Street which was covered in blood, according to Yorkshire Live.
A police scene remains in place around New Street and Ramsden Street as officers continue their investigations.
