Boy, 16, critically injured in Ajax fight

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured when he was stabbed during a fight in Ajax on Friday.

Durham regional Police say officers responded to “multiple 911 calls” about the brawl in the area of Audley Rd. and Lythgoe Ln. – a residential neighbourhood southeast of Pickering Beach Rd. and Bayly St. E. – shortly before 12 p.m.

“A large number of people were seen dispersing from area as officers arrived on scene,” Const. Emily Mitchell said in a statement released Saturday.

At the time, she said officers were “unable to locate any injured parties.”

“A short time later, a 16-year-old male attended a local-area hospital suffering from stab wounds,” Mitchell said. “It was confirmed that the victim was injured during the fight call.”

The boy was subsequently transported to a Toronto trauma centre where Mitchell said he “remains in stable but critical condition.”

Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with video footage, including cellphone, that could help investigators to come forward.
