Boggess ready to move on after long tenure at Concord

ATHENS, W.Va. — After 41 years with Concord University, President Dr. Kendra Boggess is ready to take a step back from that role.

Boggess, who became president of the university in April 2014, will retire in August however her last day is June 30.

Recently on MetroNews Midday, Boggess said that the one thing she will always remember is the students.

“I’m going to smile about our students, the connections that were able to make, it’s just an honor to be able to keep up with student’s years and years later,” Boggess said. “I have a number of these students that now serve on the boards of our foundation, on our board of governors, and seeing how far they’ve done and seeing that you had a little bit to do with that, it’s tremendous.”

She joined Concord in 1984 where she taught various undergraduate business courses within Concord’s Division of Business. She later served as the division’s chairperson from 1996 to 2006.

She also served as the faculty president in 2008 and 2009. And from 2009 to 2011 she served as an associate dean and was named interim vice president and academic dean in August 2011.

Boggess credited her amazing staff that she’s had since coming to Concord.

“They’re why were all here and they love to see the students be successful,” she said. “Our staff take them home and cook them meals they’re just wonderful and students come here the first day they tell me that it feels just like home, and that’s good thing.”

In April, Concord’s Board of Governor’s voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Bethany Meighen to the position.

She previously served as the Vice President of Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina.

Meighen received undergraduate and graduates degrees at the University of Charleston. She also served as UC’s Director of Alumni and Parent Relations, Director of Marketing and Alumni Relations and Dean of Student Life.

Meighen will assume the role Tuesday, July 1.
