KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. — A Kanawha County deputy is credited with helping rescue a family from rising waters around their mobile home early Thursday morning.

After a night of intense rainfall, calls for water rescues came in from all across a three county region early Thursday morning. Friday, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department released body cam footage of one of the rescues.

The footage came from the body camera of Kanawha County Deputy T.A. Casto who waded through freezing water to help the family on Lotus Drive in the Sissonville area get to the safety of their vehicle with water surrounding their home and rising. The family of five included an infant and two other children. The footage includes Casto carrying and calming one of the children through the rising water.

“The men and women of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office are truly the best of the best,” Sheriff Joe Crawford said in a statement. “We should all be incredibly proud of their dedication and bravery as they serve out great communities every day.”
