A minor girl and a 24-year-old man she was allegedly acquainted with were found dead in Khadakwasla dam area on Friday morning. Police said the two hailed from Ahilyanagar district and had been residing in Pune city.
According to police, the 16-year-old minor was a student and went to a Physics Wallah class in the city on Thursday evening but did not return home. Based on her sister’s complaint, an offence of kidnapping was lodged at Wanawdi police station, as per legal procedure, around 10 pm on Thursday.
A police team launched a search for the missing minor girl. A probe revealed that a 24-year-old man was also missing and his phone had been switched off since 5.30 pm on Thursday. Police also confirmed that he was not present at his native village in Ahilyanagar district. On Friday morning, a team from Uttam Nagar police station found the bodies of the missing minor girl and the man at an open space in Khadakwasla dam area. Police suspect both died by suicide and sent the bodies to a hospital for postmortem.
Senior police inspector Satyajit Admane of Wanavdi police station said a prima-facie probe revealed that the deceased girl and the man allegedly knew each other for the last few months. Police said family members of the girl were aware of this relationship and they were against it. Police were investigating the case further.
