Death in Paradise: Commissioner Selwyn says he is leaving
In the latest instalment of Death in Paradise, fans were left reeling as the beloved Commissioner (played by Don Warrington) announced his impending exit from the Saint Marie police department. Despite Catherine Bordey’s (portrayed by Elizabeth Bourgine) attempts to salvage his position, Selwyn admitted defeat, revealing he would be stepping down and departing “within a week”.
The upcoming episode teases the introduction of the Commissioner’s replacement. Upon witnessing Selwyn organising his office, a bewildered Catherine queried, “What on earth is all of this?”.
Selwyn explained, “I am getting things in order before I leave. I just need this case solved first.”
Catherine informed him that the petition to retain his role had amassed over 10,000 signatures, pressing him to seize the moment and confront the Chief Commissioner in Kingston. She insisted, ” Now is the time to act. We are going to Kingston to meet with the Chief Commissioner. He needs to realise the whole island is behind you.”
“I have already spoken to him at length,” Selwyn said, as the Mirror reports, “I am not going to beg for my job,”

“Fine, then don’t,” retorted Catherine, declaring, “But I will.”
Moved by her determination, Selwyn warns her not to let emotions interfere, stating, “How many times do I have to say it? This will be embarrassing for both of us.”
Despite Catherine’s valiant efforts, the Commissioner confirms his replacement is inevitable.
A tantalising preview of the next episode has dropped, offering fans a first glimpse of the character set to replace Selwyn in Saint Marie. In the trailer, Catherine teases the impending arrival by asking: “Has Selwyn told you what is happening tomorrow? The person taking over from him arrives.”
Fans have been speculating about the return of a favourite character since it was announced that Selwyn’s position was being phased out.
One fan expressed their wish on social media, commenting: “Humphrey was my favourite. He could come back to save Selwyn’s job,” Another chimed in with support: “Bring back Humphrey.”
A third shared their affection for the cast, adding: “I like all of the characters, especially Selwyn, I do miss Kris Marshall.”
