Baby dies after being bitten by dog in Torrance

A 1-month-old baby died after being bitten by a dog in Torrance and taken to a hospital, police said Wednesday.

The Torrance Police Department received a call just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday reporting an animal bite in the 2700 block of Martha Avenue.

Emergency personnel from the Torrance Fire Department responded and discovered that the baby had been bitten by a dog. The child was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

“Torrance Police officers responded to the hospital, contacted the parents, and learned that
the child had passed away,” the Police Department said.

The cause of death remained undetermined pending the Los Angeles County coroner’s investigation.

Torrance Animal Control has since responded and took possession of the dog, police said. There was no word on how the baby came into contact with the dog, or if it was a family pet

“The tragic news saddens the Torrance Police Department and the community,” the Police Department stated.
