An auto-rickshaw driver and two policemen have helped reunite a mentally unstable 12-year-old missing boy with his family.
The Dariya Police Post (PP) incharge in Chandigarh has recommended a commendation certificate for the auto driver, Ajay Kumar, and two policemen — Senior Constable Nikesh and Constable Ajay — for timely action in this regard.
As per the police post incharge, on February 3, 2025, a police naka was set up at Garcha Light Point, where an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number CH01TA0743 was stopped by the naka party. Upon being stopped, the auto driver informed the police that the boy sitting in his vehicle was crying at the Railway Light Point and had requested to be dropped at the railway station. However, when the driver enquired further about the child’s destination, the boy was unable to provide a clear or satisfactory response, raising concerns about his well-being. Understanding the gravity of the situation, the naka party promptly took the child to a safe public space to make him comfortable.
Noticing that the child appeared scared and confused, the police officials spoke to him amicably and with great patience, ensuring that he felt safe and comfortable. It was only after this empathetic and well-natured approach that the boy revealed his arm, where a mobile number (6283623442) was permanently engraved. The police immediately contacted the number, which was answered by Amar Verma, the boy’s father, who informed them that his son had been missing since morning and was mentally ill.
