The latest Aston Villa news as Unai Emery’s side make another statement in their bid for a return to the Champions League next season with a win over Nottingham Forest
Aston Villa have had the perfect preparation for their Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain with a big win against fellow Champions League hopefuls Nottingham Forest at Villa Park on Saturday evening.
Maybe with his eyes on that upcoming game, Unai Emery made eight changes to his starting line-up for the clash at Villa Park. That didn’t seem to have too much of an impact, though.
Things started in the perfect way for Villa as they took the lead through Morgan Rogers in the 13th minute. Just two minutes later, Villa doubled their lead through Donyell Malen.
Forest halved the deficit through half time substitute Jota Silva in the 57th minute, but Villa were able to see off the second half pressure from Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
The result leaves Villa in sixth place in the Premier League table, level on points with fifth placed Man City and just one behind Chelsea in fourth, although both do have a game in hand.
It is set to be a close battle in the race for all of the European places. With that in mind, here is a look at what’s ahead for those teams in the race.
