Ashwini Vaishnaw: Our legacy provides firm foundation for further excellence | Pune News

Union I&B Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated a modern cinema theatre-cum-auditorium at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune, in his maiden visit to the institution. FTII celebrated the inauguration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and lamp-lighting event in the presence of students and faculty.

Addressing the students and faculty at an open forum, Vaishnaw shared his vision for elevating FTII’s standing in the global stage. “Our legacy and heritage provide a firm foundation to embark on the journey of further excellence,” he said. The Minister fielded questions on various topics, including the proposed deemed university status for FTII, and assured the gathering of the government’s commitment to advancing cinema education in the country.

Vaishnaw invited students to inaugurate the auditorium by cutting the ribbon to the venue and lighting the lamps  on stage at the event.

The newly inaugurated 586-seat auditorium boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including a cinema projector, a public address system for stage performances, and a Dolby Atmos surround sound system. A standout feature is the innovative horizontally movable screen, measuring 50 ft in width and 20 ft in height, which can be adjusted seamlessly via remote control. This unique design allows the auditorium to transform effortlessly into a cinema theatre, making it a first-of-its-kind innovation. FTII has filed a patent for this pioneering feature.

Commenting on the significance of the auditorium, the minister said, “The new auditorium will not only be an invaluable strength for FTII’s pedagogy but will also become a key presence in Pune’s rich cultural landscape.”
