You might not have noticed depending on how you checkout
Asda shoppers have noticed a coincidental nod to Merseyside on their receipts. At the top of the paper you will find the word ‘Scouser’ in small writing but its appearance depends on how your purchase your shopping.
Shoppers across the country may be confused by the nod because it’s available on receipts nationwide. The receipt will say ‘Scouser’ after whichever store you are shopping in.
For example, if you’re nearest Asda store is Aintree, your receipt will read ‘Aintree Scouser’. If you’re shopping in Glasgow, it will similarly read ‘Glasgow Scouser’.
However, the term will only appear on receipts obtained at self check out tills. The reason behind the nod is entirely coincidental and to differentiate how shoppers pay for their goods.
‘Scouser’ appears on receipts as ‘ScoUser’ which is a combination of four words: Self check out user. This appears in every store as long as you are using a self service checkout.
Asda confirmed the shorthand and agreed it was a “funny coincidence” for the region to enjoy. Eagle-eyed Redditors also noticed the term, admitting they have always thought it was a reference to Liverpool.
One user wrote: “I really thought it was about Liverpool.” In response, another user said: “I did a double take! Then remembering my retail distant past I was like … no ‘sco’ means something!”
Another said: “I’m a Scouser who lives in London and wondered if somehow I’d forgotten I’d created a username.” A fourth wrote: “I’ve also had this before, it’s made me check the receipt now haha.”
