April 2025 Volunteer Spotlight – Culture in Sports

Volunteers put so much effort into non-profit organizations, and Ethan Vicencio supporting Culture in Sports is a perfect example of this. I have the pleasure of volunteering with Ethan as our System Administrator and Okta Engineer. Ethan is a quick learner who successfully juggles college and working independently, consistently delivering high-quality results. His solid understanding of Okta, including identity management and access control, allowed him to manage critical projects efficiently. Ethan’s friendly communication style and prompt responsiveness make him an invaluable team member.

We wanted to take the opportunity to share his important and impactful efforts with the community. I recently sat down with Ethan and asked him a few questions about his volunteer tour with Culture in Sports.

Angie: How long have you been volunteering?

Ethan: 13 Months

Angie: What motivated you to start volunteering and why did you decide to volunteer at Culture in Sports?

Ethan: I was intrigued by IT and wanted to gain experience working on back-end processes such as employee services, automation, and application workflow. Culture in Sports provided a unique opportunity to learn from the ground up and develop my skills at my own pace.

Angie: What’s your favorite aspect of your volunteer role, what has been the best part of your experience so far, and what specific projects have you been involved in?

Ethan: My favorite aspect of the role is working directly with the executive leadership in Culture in Sports, a great team of highly motivated individuals from which I have learned a significant amount. The best part of my experience has been working on many projects on which I have little to no experience. Learning so many new skills and completing multiple projects, such as application integrations and automation, has hastened my growth in the field much faster than any other opportunity.

Angie: What would you tell others who are considering volunteering?

Ethan: Culture in Sports is a fantastic organization with exceptional leadership who want to see you succeed. Any role will provide many opportunities for growth and learning.

Angie: How has volunteering impacted you personally?

Ethan: I have learned significant aspects of IT and system administration through my work at Culture in Sports. This has provided insight and clarity into the career pathways I plan to pursue as a college student.

Angie: What do you hope to gain through your volunteering efforts?

Ethan: I hope to gain more knowledge in the field and expand my repertoire of skills. However, I am also looking to expand my network and meet new people with whom I may learn and develop quality relationships.
