Another major train line disrupted

Norway’s train woes continued this week, after the major Dovrebanen line between Oslo and Trondheim had to shut down because of flooding at the town of Otta. Water and ice have damaged the foundation of the railroad’s bridge over the Otta River, leaving it unstable.

All trains running on the Oslo-Trondheim line had to be cancelled on Tuesday between Dombås and Vinstra, because of the flooding that’s occurred midway at Otta. Passengers will need to transfer to bus service that was being set up to replace the cancelled train service.

It’s the latest trouble facing the state rail agency BaneNor, which is responsible for railroad infrastructure that’s often damaged or breaks down. It remained unclear when train service may resume on the Dovrebanen line, but officials estimated February 5 at the earliest.
