Amid swirling rumours about his health, Empuraan star Mohanlal performs special offering for Mammootty at Sabarimala | Malayalam News

Although their fans constantly engage in a war of words — trying to assert dominance and ‘prove’ who among the two is the superior actor — Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty have shared a warm and brotherly bond since their early days in the industry. Not only did they make their acting debut in credited roles in the same year, 1980, but their rise to fame and stardom also happened around the same time. And together, they have reigned over Malayalam cinema for more than three and a half decades now. Incidentally, they have also collaborated on more than 50 films and are now gearing up for an on-screen reunion after a gap of 17 years.

Now, another incident has grabbed public attention, further highlighting the camaraderie between the two. Ahead of the impending release of his highly anticipated action thriller L2: Empuraan, Mohanlal recently visited the Sabarimala temple in Pathanamthitta, Kerala. During his pilgrimage, he performed a special offering for Mammootty. According to Mathrubhumi, the veteran actor conducted a Neeranjanam offering in the name of ‘Muhammad Kutty’, Mammootty’s birth name, born under the nakshatra of Vishakham. He also made an offering for his wife Suchitra. Accompanied by close friends, Mohanlal visited the hill shrine on Tuesday.

The Empuraan actor’s sweet gesture comes at a time when rumours are rife that Mammootty is unwell. Recently, speculations emerged that the 73-year-old actor had been diagnosed with cancer and had stepped away from his filming commitments for treatment. However, Mammootty’s PR team dismissed these claims as baseless, confirming that he is in good health. “It is fake news. He is on vacation because he is fasting for Ramzan. He is on a break from his shoot schedule as well because of that. In fact, after the break he will go back to shooting for Mahesh Narayanan’s film with Mohanlal,” Mammootty’s team told Mid-Day.

Meanwhile, Mammootty is currently gearing up for the release of debut director Deeno Dennis’ action thriller Bazooka, slated to hit theatres on April 10. He and Mohanlal are also working together on an upcoming film, tentatively titled MMMN, directed by Mahesh Narayanan. Production of the project is already underway, with the next schedule set to commence in the coming weeks. Mohanlal’s Empuraan, helmed by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, is set for release on March 27.
