The comedy boasts one of the strongest cast you’ll see in a movie
Amazon Prime Video is dropping ‘one of the funniest films of the year’ with a Ted Lasso star and a Lord of the Rings legend.
The streaming platform is currently enjoying the success of The Accountant 2, with the Ben Affleck action sequel dropping last week.
Racing to the top of Prime’s most viewed charts, fans were delighted to finally have a sequel to the 2016 hit.
On top of this, Hugh Grant horror film Herectic, where he plays a sinister man who welcomes two Jehovah Witnesses into his home, and Jason Satham’s A Working Man hit the platform just months after they were released in cinemas.
Thursday (June 12) marks the release of Prime Video’s brand new UK comedy Deep Cover, directed by Tom Kingley, who made the BBC series Ghosts.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Deep Cover is a fast-paced action comedy starring Bryce Dallas Howard as Kat, an improv comedy teacher beginning to question if she’s missed her shot at success.
“When an undercover cop (Sean Bean) offers her the role of a lifetime, she recruits two of her students (Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed) to infiltrate London’s gangland by impersonating dangerous criminals.”
Dallas Howard is best known to viewers as Chris Pratt’s co-star in the Jurassic World trilogy, where she battled dinosaurs.
On top of this she’s starred in M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village, 2024 comedy Agrylle and even in an episode of Black Mirror.
Bean and Bloom worked together in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings series, playing Boromir and Legolas respectively.
The pair have gone on to find further success in recent years, with Bean starring in BBC drama This City Is Ours several months ago and Bloom playing a key role in Gran Turismo.
Deep Cover marks an opportunity for Mohammed to prove himself as a movie star, having played Nate in Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso.
As well as playing the lovable kitman who goes slightly evil in the football comedy, Emmy nominated actor Mohammed has played Mr. Swallow across both stage and television for over a decade.
Filling out the rest of the supporting cast is John Wick legend Ian McShane and House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine.
Early reviews are still tickling it, but it seems like Deep Cover is essential for anyone looking for a good laugh this week, with Empire Magazine giving it four stars out of five.
