Already intoxicated driver crashes while huffing nitrous, leads police on foot chase

A man who was already intoxicated when he got behind the wheel of a car and began huffing nitrous oxide crashed into a parked truck and a tree before leading officers on a foot chase, authorities say.

The Upland Police Department posted video of the incident, which took place Saturday night, and referred to the suspect’s actions as “a number of poor choices.”

“He got behind the vehicle while intoxicated but didn’t stop there,” Upland police said. “He then began huffing nitrous oxide while driving and drove straight into a parked truck, according to a witness.”

After colliding with the truck, the driver continued down the road and eventually crashed into a tree in front of a residence before taking off on foot, police added.

“Officers arrived on scene in no time and got in a short foot pursuit with the suspect, who gassed out and gave up,” UPD said. “He was booked for DUI and his now totaled car was impounded.”

The suspect was not identified by name. The specific location within the city or exact time of the incident were not included in the post.
