Aldi has unveiled plans to donate over one million meals throughout the summer, with all its UK stores set to support local charities and foodbanks daily through the community giving platform Neighbourly.

This initiative follows the supermarket chain’s earlier donation of more than 8.8 million meals to those in need this year.

The demand for foodbanks typically surges during the summer holidays, making this effort especially vital.

Aldi UK’s National Sustainability Director, Luke Emery, stated: “We are proud to continue supporting incredible causes across the country this summer, helping to provide fresh, wholesome food to those who need it most.

School holidays can be a challenging time for many families, and this summer we’re continuing our efforts to provide support where we can through our partnership with Neighbourly.”

Neighbourly’s CEO, Steve Butterworth, added: “Summer holidays represent one of the busiest times of the year for charities and food banks, and we expect no less this year.

“Aldi’s generous donations play a key role in helping support families, and our partnership continues to make a meaningful difference to those who need it most.”

Aldi customers can also contribute to the cause by donating food to local charities, foodbanks, and community groups through the in-store community donation points.

Interested groups not currently working with Neighbourly can reach out to them at aldi@neighbourly.com to arrange the collection of unsold food from Aldi during the summer months.

Aldi also collaborates with Company Shop, the UK’s foremost redistributor of surplus food and household items, to distribute excess food from its Regional Distribution Centres.
