Ahmedabad: 4 cops, under investigation in DA case, suspended for unauthorised foreign visits | Ahmedabad News

Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay has suspended four police personnel, including a head constable and three constables, for allegedly travelling to foreign countries multiple times without permission or informing the superiors. The four cops are among the 13 police personnel who are being investigated in a disproportionate assets case.

Head Constable Firoz Khan Pathan, and constables Mahipatsinh Chauhan, Mahendrasinh Darbar, and Harvijaysinh Chavda were suspended for their multiple visits to Thailand, Singapore and the UAE. While Pathan is posted in Botad, Chauhan and Darbar are posted in Jamnagar, and Chavda in Amreli.

The four personnel were suspended based on a confidential report submitted by the State Monitoring Cell (SMC) to the police chief. Notably, the report on the unauthorised foreign travel is part of a larger investigation into the disproportionate assets allegedly accumulated by 13 police personnel being probed by SMC DIG Nirlipt Rai as ordered by the DGP.

The 13 police personnel had all been shunted out of Ahmedabad City Police and posted across the state in November 2024 on suspicions of corruption, said sources at Police Bhavan.

A senior officer, on condition of anonymity, said the larger investigation into their disproportionate assets remains a separate inquiry altogether but the confidential report on their foreign travels had been submitted to the DGP after evidence surfaced during the primary investigation.

DGP Sahay remained unavailable for comment.

Meanwhile, the other nine personnel under probe are also likely to be suspended in the coming days after the SMC investigation found that many of them had also engaged in unauthorised domestic travel during their posting in Ahmedabad city. Several of them had travelled to Maharashtra, Rajasthan as well as Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior officer.
