Sanjeev Kumar Mukhiya, the alleged mastermind behind the 2024 NEET-UG paper leak and multiple interstate examination scams, was arrested early Friday by Bihar’s Economic Offences Unit in a midnight operation at Saguna More in Danapur. The arrest follows an 11-month chase and a Rs 3 lakh reward announced earlier this month.
Additional Director General, EOU, Nayyar Husnain Khan said that Mukhiya was nabbed from an apartment after intelligence inputs pinpointed his location. The accused faces charges in at least four cases, including the Bihar Teacher Recruitment Exam and the Uttar Pradesh Constable Recruitment Exam, and is currently being interrogated by the police and the CBI, the officer said.
The EOU had earlier named him the “kingpin” of an interstate solver gang before transferring the NEET case to the CBI in June 2024. Despite raids across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Nepal, Mukhiya evaded capture until today.
Mukhiya’s son, Dr Shiv Kumar, an MBBS graduate from Patna Medical College, was arrested earlier in a separate exam leak case and is now out on bail.
