Several Collingwood and Carlton supporters were kicked out of the MCG after a significant verbal altercation during the two clubs’ AFL clash on Friday night.
Tempers between opposing fans on level one of the Olympic Stand flared so badly in the third quarter that security were forced to step in and eject a number of them.
“The MCG maintains the dispute remained verbal, but was significant enough that the fans were escorted from the venue,” 7NEWS Melbourne’s Xander McGuire said.

That frustrations reached boiling point for Carlton fans was little surprise after the Blues slumped to a crushing 56-point defeat against theur arch-rivals as pressure again intensifies on embattled coach Michael Voss.
The Blues were blown away after quarter-time as the ladder-leading Magpies flexed their muscles in a 17.13 (115) to 8.11 (59) win in front of 75,827 fans at the MCG on Friday night.
Carlton president Rob Priestley this week declared Voss safe at least until the end of the season, without guaranteeing the coach will see out the final year of his contract.
But another meek performance will spark further debate about the 49-year-old’s tenure ahead of incoming CEO Graham Wright’s official start next month.
The Blues, who meet reigning premiers Brisbane next week, are nursing a 6-10 record and will be four wins outside the top eight by the end of the round.
They also lost Zac Williams — one of their best players with 19 disposals and three goals — to a knee injury early in the final quarter.
It was business as usual for Collingwood (14-2), who sit well clear on top of the ladder after an eighth consecutive victory.
The Pies edged the opening term — 4.3 to 3.3 — as Carlton forward Jesse Motlop dedicated his early goal to late Liverpool star Diogo Jota.
It was a rare moment of celebration for the Blues, who coughed up the first three goals of the second term and trailed 8.5 to 4.5 at half-time.
Far cleaner and more composed, Collingwood took complete control in the third quarter and piled on 8.4 from 15 forward entries.
Jamie Elliott’s third major gave him a career-best 40 for the season and the Magpies turned for home a neat 10 goals in front before coasting to victory.
Elliott and Daniel McStay finished with four goals each, and Nick Daicos was typically influential with a game-high 36 disposals and seven clearances.
Josh Daicos (27 disposals), Scott Pendlebury (22) and Jack Crisp (24) were also busy, as was Tom Mitchell (26) in his first game since April last year.
Darcy Moore and Isaac Quaynor were strong in defence, helping Collingwood to a 22-7 advantage in contested marks.
Carlton had few winners, but captain Patrick Cripps (25 disposals, nine clearances) never gave up.
Motlop kicked two majors and spearhead Charlie Curnow was busy but finished with 0.3 from 18 touches.
