Union Home Minister Amit Shah Sunday said that the profession of an advocate involves a sacred duty of strengthening the Constitution and democracy and protecting the constitutional rights of 140 crore citizens of the country related to their property, body and dignity.
Shah was addressing an event in Gandhinagar organised by the Bar Council of Gujarat to administer oath to 11,000 newly enrolled advocates in the state.
Shah said, “The profession you are going to be attached with from today is not just a profession, but a sacred duty. That duty is to strengthen the Constitution, democracy and to protect the rights of 140 crore citizens of the country, to protect their property, body and dignity as provided in the Constitution.”
“In any other profession, a mistake could cause financial loss to a person. But in the profession that you are going to be attached with, your mistake could make someone’s life full of darkness and if you do (your duty) properly, it could bring light in their lives, ” he said.
Shah said that the people have faith in the judiciary but it cannot be sustained for long if it takes 20 years in getting justice. And therefore, Shah said, PM Narendra Modi led-Centre has brought three new criminal laws so that people get timely justice.
“When you are going to be associated with justice system, I can certainly say that after thorough implementation of the three laws, it has such provisions that justice will be received right up to the Supreme Court in three years of registration of an FIR,” Shah said.
Shah also said, “In coming days, we are going to set up a national cooperative of drivers, an institution for taxi management at national level on the lines of Ola-Uber. We are also going to start gas distribution work through cooperative movement…”
