Actor Adam Sandler attended SNL 50: The Anniversary Special in New York on Sunday, February 16. Accompanied by his wife, Jackie Sandler, the longtime comedian was dressed to the nines in a black tuxedo complete with a bow tie.
Variety caught up with the Happy Gilmore star and a reporter for the outlet couldn’t help but note that Adam was dressed up in black tie.
“It’s a terrible feeling, I agree,” the actor responded. “Al Franken saw me in a sweatshirt last night and he was like, ‘What are you doing?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, alright, I don’t want to let Al down,’ so I put a tux on,” he joked.

Adam is notorious for wearing casual attire and is almost always seen dressed down in sweatpants and Hawaiian shirts or graphic tees.
In June 2022, Adam talked to Esquire about his role as Stanley Sugerman in Hustle. In the film, Adam was able to fully embrace his laid back style.
“It took a while. I was working that angle for years. For a while I was like, ‘Please accept me and the way I dress. And 30 years later, they finally came around,” he said, later adding, “Anything that feels soft I usually buy.”
Adam’s black tie look drew attention from another comedian — Amy Schumer. She couldn’t help but jab at Adam, whom she worked with on the new Netflix film, Kinda Pregnant.
“You look handsome,” she told Adam on the red carpet at SNL 50. “No, you look very handsome. Yeah, a tailor would have been … you know. Anyway,” she added.

Adam’s time on Saturday Night Live began in 1990. He was a staple on the show for about five years before being fired from the program.
“At the time, I was hurt, because I didn’t know what else I was going to do,” Adam said on The Howard Stern Show in 2019.
“[My manager] was talking to me, and I said ‘Yeah, next year on the show, blah blah blah.’ And he was like, ‘Maybe you don’t go back next year.’ And I was like ‘I don’t know man. I still got a few more things.’ He’s like ‘Yeah, but you did it already.’ I was like ‘I did, but you know…I’ll think about it,’ and he was like ‘I think you thought about it,'” Adam recalled.
