BJP MLA-elect from Rajouri Garden, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Friday said that mohalla clinics set up by the outgoing AAP government would be renamed as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs once the new BJP government is sworn in.
Doctors and staff currently deployed at the mohalla clinics would continue in the new set-up, he added.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Sirsa said, “The scheme started by the AAP government was a haven for fraud… ghost patients were undergoing fake tests and fake bills were being generated.”
He added that as soon as the new government is formed in Delhi, the BJP would establish Ayushman Arogya Mandirs near JJ (jhuggi-jhopri) clusters to ensure free primary healthcare for all residents in these areas.
The Delhi BJP’s first Sankalp Patra (manifesto) for the Assembly polls had promised the establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in JJ clusters to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in these communities.
Mohalla clinics, the centrepiece of the Aam Aadmi Party government’s health infrastructure, were first set up in October 2015. The Capital has 546 mohalla clinics spread across 70 Assembly constituencies.
