Gujarat: Couple arrested for ‘cheating’ man of Rs 1.6 cr for Canada PR | Ahmedabad News

A couple allegedly accused of cheating people in lieu of providing visas has been arrested by the CID crime wing of Gujarat Police, said officials on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Rushikesh Vinayak Purohit and his wife Sujata Wandhwa, both residents of Bhayali in Vadodara and originally from Punjab’s Ludhiana, have been named in multiple cheating complaints in Gujarat, said the police.

The man and his wife had been running the company New Path Career Solutions Pvt Ltd through which they cheated the complainant, said the police.

“They had promised permanent residency (PR) in Canada to a victim and cheated the complainant of Rs 1.60 crore,” said the police.

The victim Hardik Patel had filed a complaint at the Ahmedabad Zone Police Station for cheating and fraud. Based on the complaint, the investigation officer-cum- Police Inspector DV Tadvi searched for the accused in Haryana, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The accused were finally arrested from Kasol village in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district, said the police.

“The couple was wanted for several crimes, the cases for which have been filed at Bodakdev Police Station in Ahmedabad, Bapod and DCB police stations in Vadodara and Rajpipla Police Station in Narmada,” said an official. According to the initial probe, the police stated that the couple “cheated several people so that they could settle abroad with the loot money”.

A probe is underway into the matter, said the police.
