By Emmie Cromwell – This paper is BONKERS!!! I Found it a few days ago when I was researching ‘inoculation theory.’
The psychological drivers of misinformation belief and its resistance to correction published by the Nature Reviews Psychology Journal
Academics have lost their minds, including the contributors of this publication. Sadly, all but two are Professors. The departments for which they work include psychology, journalism, and climate change communications. I provide contributor names and position details at the end, but will say up front that there are five contributors who work at universities in the US. This is not supposed to happen in our country. Is it possible that they are oblivious to the fact that in their effort to prevent misinformation manipulation, they are creating a blueprint for the advancement of totalitarianism?
Here are some terms and quotes from the publication, that I thought would best make my point. I also included my comments in italics.
Ridiculous Lingo – How I define the term

Quotes that make this supposedly serious paper seem like satire, and my comments
-
“When deciding what is true, people are often biased to believe in the validity of information, and ‘go with their gut’ and intuitions instead of deliberating.”
-
“Difficulties discerning true from false news headlines can also arise from intuitive (or ‘lazy’) thinking rather than the impact of worldviews.”
-
“When acting alone, individuals — unlike fact checkers — tend to disregard the quality of the news outlet and judge a headline’s accuracy based primarily on the plausibility of the content.”
-
“Social media corrections are effective when they come from algorithmic sources, from expert organizations such as a government health agency.”
